Here are steps to follow to obtain your pleasure craft operator card online. Read all the steps before you start.

First step

Register
The registration is free. It gives you access to the free training offered on the site. You will also have access to the exam online. Your registration will be valid for one year for the exam and you will be able to have access to the course manual online for life! It will be possible for you, even after having obtained your card, to come back on this website and consult the manual to refresh your memory.

Second Step

Take the course online
The course online is absolutely free. It consists of a handbook, which includes all the information to help you succeed. You can also order the printed handbook.

Third Step

In order to do your online exam, you have to find a proctor, i.e. a person of your circle who must be on your side while you do your exam. The proctor has to meet some criteria and makes sure that the rules are followed during the exam. This person doesn't need to possess the operator card to become a proctor. The registration is absolutely free.

To become a permanent proctor, you must be at least 18 years old and cannot be a sibling of the person taking the exam. Moreover, you cannot have the same email address, nor the same postal address, as him / her.

Your status as a permanent exam proctor is valid for 6 months.

Fourth step

Pay exam fees
The cost is 50.00$. It includes the exam, the operator card and the taxes. The fee will be charged when you take the exam. Note that the payment is collected even if you fail the exam, but it is however possible for you to take the exam again for only 10.00$. There is no refund. Only one exam per day is permitted.

Last step

Take the exam
Your exam must be supervised and you are not permitted to have access to any documents or material while writing the exam. The exam consists of 36 questions, you must answer 27 of them correctly in order to pass. You have 45 minutes to write your exam. The exam will end when you have answered all the questions or if the time allowed has expired. Immediate feedback will be given upon the test completion or expiration of the time allowed. You will be given the number of successful answers to the test and be allowed to review and access, once only, all the answers on the test. For each question not answered correctly, the correct answer will be given and a brief explanation to each question not answered correctly. If you fail a test, we recommend taking an accredited course. If you fail by more than 50 percent, we strongly recommend that you take an accredited course before trying the test again. If you need additional information please contact us. If the feedback provided is not sufficient, additional feedback will be given within a reasonable timeframe when you notify us.

Help and FAQ.

Q. What is the minimum configuration required on my computer?

  • Internet Explorer 5 or higher and Netscape 6 or higher.
  • "Cookies" and Javascript must be activated.
  • Make sure to have a stable internet connection during the exam.

Q. The exam window does not open. Why is that?

Make sure that no anti-publicity software is running when you are taking the exam. This kind of software prevents the opening of a new window and consequently, the exam window won't open. Also, make sure that you can run javascript or that it is not deactivated.
